MA Estate Planning + IP Lawyer - Intellestate Law

A Recognition That Reflects Our Clients, Community, and Mission

We are incredibly honored and excited to share that Intellestate Law has been selected as the 2026 Small Business of the Year by the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of MetroWest.

As a relatively young firm, this recognition means a great deal to us. What began as a solo law practice in Northborough has grown into a thriving firm serving families, inventors, entrepreneurs, and business owners throughout Massachusetts and across the United States. To be recognized by such a respected organization in our local business community is both humbling and inspiring.

Most importantly, this award belongs not only to our team, but to the clients who have trusted us to help protect what matters most.

Built on a Different Vision of Legal Services

When Attorney Jason M. Toomey founded Intellestate Law, the goal was simple: create a law firm that helps clients protect the things they own and the things they create.

Many law firms focus on one or the other, either estate planning or intellectual property. Jason saw firsthand that these areas often overlap. The same people building businesses, creating innovations, and developing valuable intellectual property are also building families, creating legacies, and planning for their personal future.

That insight became the foundation of Intellestate Law.

Today, our firm helps clients with many different needs:

  • Select business law services that support our clients’ broader goals, including business entity formation and partnership agreements.

Protect what matters most.  This has been our mission from the beginning and remains our mission to this day.

From Engineer to Attorney

Jason’s path to becoming an attorney was anything but traditional.

Before practicing law while working as an engineer, he was asked to help lead an in-house patent program. That experience sparked an interest in intellectual property law, which ultimately led him to law school.

At New England Law Boston, Jason graduated first in his class and earned ten CALI Excellence for the Future Awards and academic recognition in estate planning, intellectual property, and business law.

Today, with a background in electrical engineering and decades of experience working with patents and innovation, Jason brings a unique perspective to the field. Whether helping an inventor secure a patent or guiding a family through the estate planning process, he approaches each challenge with a solid combination of precision, strategy, and care.

The Heart of the Firm: Kat Toomey

While Jason founded Intellestate Law, the firm’s growth story would not be complete without Kathleen M. Toomey.

Known to clients simply as “Kat,” she officially joined the firm as COO and Director of Client Services in 2025 after nearly twenty years in education.

The skills she brought from the classroom have become the firm’s greatest strengths: the ability to educate, communicate, and make people feel comfortable with complex topics.

From a client’s first phone call until the satisfaction of their results, Kat ensures every step of the process is comfortable and clear. Her dedication to our clients makes a true difference at our firm, which reflects our core belief that legal planning should leave people feeling informed and confident, never overwhelmed.

Many clients tell us that working with Kat puts them at ease and makes the process easier than they expected.

A Family Business at Its Core

One thing that makes Intellestate Law unique is that it truly is a family business.

Jason and Kat work directly with every client throughout the planning process. There are no handoffs, no layers of bureaucracy, and no feelings of being treated like a case number.

Instead, we focus on relationships.

Whether we’re helping parents create a trust, assisting a startup with trademark protection, or guiding a business owner through succession planning, our goal is always the same: provide personalized service, clear communication, and practical solutions.

Growth Rooted in Community

Over the past two years, Intellestate Law has experienced tremendous growth. We have expanded our team and welcomed clients from all across Massachusetts and beyond. We are honored to continue building relationships throughout the MetroWest and Worcester County communities.

Receiving this recognition from the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of MetroWest reflects the support we’ve received from fellow business owners, community organizations, referral partners, and clients who have believed in our vision from the beginning.

As well, we are thankful for opportunities to give back through educational presentations, community involvement, and helping people better understand the legal tools available to protect their futures.

Thank You

Receiving the 2026 Small Business of the Year Award is an incredible honor and a strong reminder of why we do what we do.

To the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of MetroWest, thank you for this recognition.

To our clients, colleagues, referral partners, friends, and family, thank you for your trust and support.

And to everyone who has been part of our journey so far, we look forward to continuing to serve this community and helping more families, innovators, and business owners protect what they’ve built and who they love.

Engineer your peace of mind.
